Smoky Phlippen Michelada

The beer cocktail that's about to become your summer staple. Light, refreshing lager meets tangy lime, spicy Phlippens, and a savoury rim for the ultimate thirst-quencher. It's a fiesta in a glass, and it pairs with everything from tacos to poolside lounging.

Prep: 5m | Cook: 0m | Heat: Choice (Original for balanced smoke, Hot for a spicy kick)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Mexican lager (Corona, Modelo, Pacifico, or similar)
  • 2 tbsp Phlippens Sauce (Original or Hot)
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tbsp)
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes hot sauce (optional, for extra heat)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ice cubes
  • Phlippen Rimmer or a mix of chili powder and salt for rimming
  • Lime wedge for rimming and garnish

The Gear:

  • Pint glass or large beer mug
  • Small plate for rimming
  • Bar spoon

Instructions:

  1. The Rim: Pour Phlippen Rimmer (or your chili-salt mix) onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip the rim to coat. Fill the glass with ice.
  2. The Mix: Add Phlippens Sauce, fresh lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), and a pinch of salt to the glass.
  3. The Stir: Give it a quick stir to combine the ingredients.
  4. The Pour: Slowly pour the cold beer over the ice, letting it mix naturally with the other ingredients. Pour gently to avoid too much foam.
  5. The Final Stir: Give it one gentle stir with a bar spoon to incorporate everything.
  6. The Garnish: Add a lime wedge to the rim for squeezing or sipping.
  7. The Sip: Enjoy immediately while it's ice cold and perfectly balanced.

Phlippen Tip: Use a light Mexican lager for this—nothing too hoppy or heavy. You want the beer to be refreshing and let the Phlippens and lime shine through.

Pro-Tips & Pairings:

  • Batch It: Hosting a BBQ? Mix the Phlippens, lime juice, Worcestershire, and hot sauce in a pitcher. Let guests pour over ice and top with their own beer for a Michelada bar.
  • Eat This: This is the perfect pairing for our Phlippen Jerk Pulled Pork tacos, Phlippen Pulled Pork Sliders, or any Mexican-inspired meal. It cuts through rich flavours beautifully.
  • Make It Fancy: Add a splash of Clamato juice for a "Chelada" hybrid that bridges the gap between a Caesar and a Michelada.
  • Spice It Up: Rim the glass with Phlippen Rimmer for an extra smoky, spicy punch with every sip.
  • Keep It Simple: Don't have all the ingredients? Just Phlippens, lime, salt, and beer still makes a fantastic drink.
